Kauai HI Napali Coast Kalalau Trail Elopement Adventure Hike

Simple photos with beautiful scenery was all Lindsey & Jason have ever requested for their photos. Engagement and wedding, that was all they wanted. Easy! We live in Montana, beauty all around us. And they naturally just cuddle into each other with no fear of the camera. Their wedding day happened right in the middle of fire season. Which is hit or miss here. But that weekend was one of the worst. With 3 fires burning near their venue, road closures JUST down the road, the smoke filled the valley like thick fog. The task of simple images with beautiful scenery wasn’t looking so easy.

Weeks before their wedding I photographed Chris & Becky’s elopement hike to Iceberg Lake and just after posting it Lindsey emailed gushing about it. Telling me her dream to just elope on the Napali Coast of Kauai HI and how Jason wanted a Montana wedding. But she started planting the seed for an idea to do a day after session hike in Glacier or maybe even Kauai, since we all love going there.

I drove hours through the smoke thinking it was a sign. The universe is telling us that we need to do this wedding together and then we need a day after session in Kauai. Their wedding turned out beautifully. And although the mountains were hidden mysteriously in the smoke the photos turned out so cool. And we joked all day about how maybe we should go to Kauai.

So… we went. Jason had his Montana wedding and Lindsey got her Napali Coast. We met up in the morning at Ke’e Beach and started hiking the Kalalau Trail to Hanakapiai and then a few more miles up into the jungle to Hanakapiai Falls. 8 miles + all in their dress and suit. Quite impressive hey?!

The photos are unreal! And as much as I love the images, it was so much fun to just reconnect with one of my couples out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, hike a beautiful coastline, tell stories, and laugh the whole way. A huge shoutout to my girl, Meg, for coming along and helping out. It’s a long ways to go in a day with lots of gear and it was better with her (and her walking stick) there 🙂 Simple photos with beautiful scenery….. CHECK!

Thank you Lindsey & Jason for making this happen!!! It is a highlight for sure. I can’t wait for more adventure sessions/elopements. They’re so inspiring!!!
